The Institute for Community Action Training

First held in January 2013, The Institute for Community Action Training (ICAT) teaches our Community Action methodology to impassioned individuals who are interested in using the arts as a vehicle for social change. ICAT consists of a weekend-long intensive that provides participants with time-tested tools for building new outreach programs. Registration is open to dance and social service professionals.

The Institute for Community Action Training offers dancers and social service professionals:

  • A working understanding of domestic violence as well as other prevalent social issues
  • Space for reflection: What issues are important to you and what do you have to offer?
  • Techniques for effectively working with target populations
  • Guidance in implementing our four-part program model
  • Workshop aids and resources (sample exercises, session structures, and Take Care Cards)
  • Technical assistance in program development and partnership cultivation

Most importantly, ICAT participants gain the tools and skills to initiate, build, and sustain arts outreach projects within their own communities.
