Day One partners with New York City youth to end dating abuse and domestic violence through community education, supportive services, legal advocacy, and leadership development. Serving the five boroughs of New York City, Day One uses an empowerment model that invests and involves young people in maintaining safe relationships for themselves and their peers and engages youth in designing projects to raise awareness in their communities. All direct services for youth are free and available in English and Spanish.
Sanctuary for Families is the leading New York State nonprofit dedicated exclusively to serving victims of domestic violence and sex trafficking. Each year, Sanctuary helps thousands of victims and their children build safe lives by offering a range of high quality services to meet their complex needs, including clinical, legal, shelter, children’s, and economic empowerment services. Sanctuary also works to end domestic violence through outreach, education, and advocacy.
Safe Horizon is the largest organization helping victims of crime and abuse in the United States, responding to more than 250,000 children, adults, and families each year. It is recognized and sought out as a leading expert on violence and victimization both nationally and globally and provides comprehensive services that help victims overcome crisis and become survivors as they restore their lives.
AVP: The Anti-Violence Project was founded in 1980 in Chelsea in reaction to neighborhood incidents of anti-gay violence. Today, AVP provides free and confidential assistance to thousands of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and HIV-affected (LGBTQH) people each year from all five boroughs of New York City through direct client services and community organizing and public advocacy. AVP was named a White House Champion of Change for our work on intimate partner violence within LGBTQH communities. In 2010, our Board of Directors received the Alan Morrow Prize for Board Excellence from the Stonewall Foundation.
